This point is where the track leaves the original right of way. The dirt road to the left--Red Rock Rd--is the original line thru Mound House.

I think they would like to be but, even though they had entered into some sort of agreement with the V&T Commission (separate from Bob Gray's operation) at the present time they are not involved in this operation. McCloud #18 was sent from Oakdale to Virginia City and, as of two weeks ago, was sitting outside Gray's engine house.

As #18 is not serviceable at the moment, it was Gray who saved the day for the opening of service with his cars and 2-8-0 #29. My personal opinion is that holding ones breath for the Sierra Northern to be a presence in Nevada could be a self-destructive excercise.

I beleive the color scheme for the cars is correct, but those are not V&T cars. They were 'Kimball' cars, and they didn't have the clerestory style roofs. But those aren't Harrimans either, by my eye.

Bob Gray purchased those two cars from the defunct Kettle Moraine Scenic Railroad in Wisconsin last summer. I saw one of them rolling west on the back of a truck between Deeth and Wells (Nevada) last spring/early summer. I don't remember the original heritage of those cars (Lackawana maybe?).

The Harriman cars the V&T Commission purchased are still in storage at Portola and are in the process of being sold to Timber Heritage Association, who has a collection of locomotives they hope to operate excursions on the old Northwestern Pacific around Humboldt Bay with.
