On August 15th, the recently rebuilt Virginia & Truckee began regular service began service from Eastgate, just West of Mound House, to Gold Hill and connecting with Bob Gray's V&T. McCloud 2-8-2 #18 has arrived on the property but needs several repairs and is planned to enter service next year. It is currently outside the shop in Virginia City. V&T 2-8-0 #29 is currently being used.

Eastgate, the current terminal.

Thanks Drew for posting those shots.

First thing that came to mind after looking at them, other than thinking it's not a shot of another yellow blob, is that the track looks to be so much better than anything the V&T ever had.

You have to wonder about what Beebe would have said at the grand opening if he was still around. You can bet it would have been colorful and grand

While I was out there, I kind of conjured up a mental picture of him and Clegg in that photo of both of them sitting on a rail on the SP narrow gauge which, of course, was once owned by the same interests as the V&T.

One does wonder what he would have said. Grand and glorious? You bet. The only problem is, as has been said many times, Lucius never let the truth interfere with a good story. Given Beebe's long standing acrimony with general manager Major Gordon Sampson, I wonder what he would said about the politics surrounding the reconstruction. I am sure the commission would not have been pleased.
